The short version
This website does not use cookies. It does not track you across other sites, it carries no advertising, and it asks you to consent to nothing, because nothing is stored on your device that you did not ask for.
One small preference is kept in your browser, and one measurement script runs. Both are described below.
What is stored on your device
A single value, opt-theme, held in your browser's local storage. It contains one word, either light or dark, so that the site opens in the theme you chose the last time you were here. It stays until you clear it.
This value is created only if you use the light and dark toggle in the site header. It never leaves your browser, it is not sent to us or to anyone else, and it holds nothing that identifies you. Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, storage of this kind is exempt from the consent requirement because it exists solely to deliver something you explicitly asked for.
Measurement
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many people read the site and which pages they read. It was chosen because it works without cookies: it stores no identifier on your device, places nothing there for you to consent to, and cannot follow you to other websites.
It records the page viewed, the site you arrived from, the country the visit came from, the general browser and device type, and how quickly the page loaded. Cloudflare states that it does not follow you over time by your IP address, your browser's user agent or any other fixed attribute, and does not fingerprint your device. Visits are counted by noticing that a page view arrived from a different website, not by recognising you. The figures reach us in aggregate: we cannot identify you from them, and we cannot pick your visit out of them.
The script is loaded from static.cloudflareinsights.com, which is the only external network call this site makes.
What this site does not do
- It sets no cookies of any kind.
- It carries no advertising, and no advertising or marketing tags.
- It runs no cross-site tracking, and no social media or other third-party tracking code.
- It embeds no social media buttons, videos or maps that would load third-party code.
- It loads no fonts from external networks. Fonts are served from this site's own domain.
- It builds no profile of you, and takes no automated decisions about you.
Managing what is stored
You can remove the theme preference at any time by clearing site data for optionone.io in your browser settings. Every major browser offers this, usually under privacy or site settings. The site will still work; it will simply open in its default light theme, or follow your system setting, until you choose again.
If you block local storage entirely, the site continues to function normally and your theme choice is not remembered between visits.
The measurement script stores nothing, so there is nothing to clear. If you would rather it did not run at all, any standard content blocker will stop it, and the site works exactly the same without it.
Changes to this policy
If cookies or any tracking technology are ever introduced to this site, this page will be updated and, where the law requires it, your consent will be asked for before anything is set. The date at the top shows when this was last revised.
